If you have shiny, greasy skin all the time, it is not a bad thing! A lot of people have oily skin. It just means that your sebaceous glands are overactive, producing excess sebum which is contributing to a shiny, greasy-looking face. While even having dry skin has its own problems, greasy and oily skin tend to be a bed for acne and blackheads to sleep in. this is because the oiliness on your skin makes it easier for the dirt to stick in. this results in clogged pores that lead to acne breakouts.  Pollution and dirt can even lead to skin-bumps for those with very oily skin. The solution here is to keep the oil production in control by following some simple beauty and skin care tips.

1: Cleanse

Cleansing is the most effective way to get rid of the excess oil layer on the skin. It is important to cleanse your face twice or thrice daily to rid it of all the accumulated dirt and oil build-up which leads to clogged pores, acne etc. Gel based cleansers work best for oily skin. But, the one important thing to remember here is to not resort to abrasive and bad techniques to rinse your face over and over again. This will only hamper the skin resulting in more oil production by the sebaceous glands.

2: Exfoliate, but gently

While you are cleansing your face thrice a day, it is important to exfoliate oily skin once or twice a week. The excess sebum produced leads to dead skin cells on the skin’s surface, resulting in pimples, acne, whiteheads, and blackheads, and of course a dull-looking skin. To eliminate that, gently exfoliate your face once/twice a week. Again, make sure you are not tearing up the skin with harsh techniques.

3: Face Mask

While cleansing and exfoliating will get rid of the extra oily layer of the skin, face masks help absorb all the excess oil from the pores. This also helps in tightening pores and hydrating the skin naturally in turn making it glow.

4: Tone

This is one of the most important step that a lot of people tend to forget! Before moisturizing and following your facial cleanser, a face toner helps to remove excess dirt, traces of oil and makeup, correct and balance the pH of your skin, and helps control acne. In other words, a facial toner also thoroughly cleans the skin and helps remove built up surface dead skin cells. Using rose water as a toner can also do wonders for your skin!

5: Moisturise

Contrary to popular belief, oily skin needs moisturizing and hydration. Hydrating your skin can help oily skin produce less oil. Stripping the skin of moisture will only further encourage the sebaceous glands to produce more oil to compensate. By applying an oil-free moisturizer (and sunscreen), you help balance your skin, preventing an increase in oil, yet still providing enough hydration to prevent your skin from drying out.

While these skin care tips will make your skin look flawless, always have a little kit ready to help you during the difficult times. Always carry translucent powder and oil- blotting sheets. If you start looking like a shiny ball just powder your face with translucent powder and blot away the excess oil.
